  1. About myself: 21 years old, just got seriously into cycling this spring. Right now I am borrowing a Trek 7.2 FX hybrid bike and I like it, but my goal isn't to "casually enjoy the countryside" as a lot of the sales pitches go for the hybrids. I want to train hard and really take it to another level with longer distance road biking. What should I get? Are hybrids good for someone like me? Looking to spend in the $500 - $800 range.

  2. If all of your riding is going done on roads, or at least paved bike paths, then you probably should look at road bikes.

There are a lot of good brands of road bikes ( Trek, Giant, Specialized, Cannondale, and etc. ), so you might want to visit some of your local bike shops to see what brands they carry and what they have in your price range.

It will also help you decide which bike shop you really want to do business with.

Once you have narrowed your choices down a bit, I would recommend posting what bikes your looking at on here to get some feedback from the gurus.

Brand, model, equipment groups, wheels, etc are all things that should be considered.
