  1. This morning, I received a doo-dad that grinds up tomatoes and spits
out the skin and the seeds and saves the pulp. It was an e-bay purchase
and I'm very happy with it...EXCEPT...it has a suction thingy on the
bottom and, no matter what I do, I can't make it really hold tight.

Is there a trick to using these things? I've moistened the seal area
and don't know what else to do.

I did manage to make 2 quarts of tomato sauce, this morning, so the
gadget is not going to go to waste, but it would be nice if I didn't
    have to fight with it.

If you can understand this highly technical question, and have a
solution for me, I'd love to hear it.

Suction cups just aren't what they used to be, and they were never much good
anyway. Welcome to the world of garbage made in China. (just a guess)

You might try wiping the counter first with some rubbing alcohol.

If you can get a sink cutout of formica to place on your counter top
and then wipe the underside of the suction cup with a little cooking
oil, it will help. If you have a smooth tile or formica counter top
the oil will help quite a bit.

Yeah, Jillie -- get the one that clamps onto the counter. :-/
I've never thought any of those suction gizmos are worth their suction
cups as soon as you apply the slightest amount of (torque?)

  5. After much whining, crying and carrying on, the problem seems to be
    solved.

Frank brought some really good clamps in from the garage and now that
    sucker ain't goin' no place!

Had to rig up some different ways of catching the pulp and skins, but
we did about 50 tomatoes with no problem at all. Yeah!!!!

    Thanks for your suggestions.
