I have looked, and looked, and looked at all the vintage bikes sites.
I can find very little info on Hercules bikes prior to Raleigh's purchase in 1960.
I can't date my Hercules tourist, because it doesn't have a sturmey archer 3 speed hub. Though I did find that the three speed hub was made by sturmey, just not stamped by them instead,it says, B-type-5 Hercules Birmingham England.
The bike has Dunlop lightweight steel rims, the front rim stamped with, H.R. Pattern.
The serial number is 6817WW, and is on the lower left hand tail piece.
The sprocket is formed in H patterns, and the crank is cottered.
The original back tire is a dunlop champion. The stemm is threaded all the way down to the rim and has metal ferrules that tighten against the rim.
The chain guard is the hockey stick type, and has a nice emblem that says hercules tourist. The front badge says Hurcules, with Birmingham England on it.
It is black, with black fenders and pin stripping on all tubes and fenders.
Well, if anyone has any info, throw it my way.
Thanks, Ken
