  1. Hey,

I'm planning on cycling in Thailand in the summer - Chiang Mai to Phuket, approx 1500km, over a period of 6 to 7 weeks. I'm not what you'd call fit - but i'm not massively unfit either, I play squash 2 or 3 times a week and go to the gym usually once a week, as well as cycle at least 15 to 20 miles once a week. Obviously i'm well aware this level isn't sufficient for the ride above, but I was wondering whether you think I can get myself to the level required by July this year? And if so, what kind of regime can anybody reccomend? I was thinking the below, with 3 cycle rides a week, as well as 2 gym sessions focusing on lower body muscle strength.

    the cycle ride lengths being;

    Week 1 = 15miles
    Week 2 = 15miles
    Week 3 = 17miles
    Week 4 = 19miles
    Week 5 = 20miles
    Week 6 = 22miles
    Week 7 = 24miles
    Week 8 = 26miles
    Week 9 = 28miles
    Week 10 = 30miles
    Week 11 = 33miles
    Week 12 = 36miles
    Week 13 = 39miles
    Week 14 = 40miles
    Week 15 = 45miles
    Week 16 = 50miles

    Week 17 = 3 x 25 mile rides (week before departure)

Does this sound do-able? i.e. is this regime possible or will it kill me to the point of injury? I feel a bit of a fool for asking, but I respect those who have been there and hopefully you'll respect me for asking for your knowledge, as an oppose to just stabbing in the dark.

    Many Thanks,

    Matt
