Ok, I recently built up a "beater" bike using a bunch of my old leftover components. I ended up with some Profile "Bullhorn" style TT bars, and onto them I mounted my old Shimano STI brake/shift levers.
Well, the shifting is fine, but the braking is awful, due mostly to the way I had to wrap the brake cable around the bars to get it under the bar tape. The brakes aren't very effective unless I run the pads really close to the rim, in which case I get brake rub when I sprint or climb.
Now, I can get brake levers which slide into the ends of the bars and will fix the braking problem, but that leaves me with no good way to mount shifters (frame won't accept downtube shifters). Someone told me about "Kelly take-off" mounts to mount the shifters near the brake levers, but I have yet to see a set in person to know if they'll work.
Has anyone ever used these? Or does anyone else have a suggestion on shifters or brake levers that'll work with these TT bars?
