  1. I'm sort of a beginner to MTB and main riding will be XC, but I do have experience with road cycling, dirt motorcycling & sport motorcycles so I'm no stranger to two wheels.

My question is: I've got an older fs Mongoose sx 6.7 and am wondering what I can do to improve it in terms of upgrading components - shocks, handlebars, brakes, etc.. Or is it even worth it?

    Cheers,

Im sorry to say but i wouldnt bother upgrading it, all the money you would have to put into it, I would just get a nice new hardtail. (best for XC IMO)

  3. Actually, the 6.7 was a pretty decent bike when it came out in 1999 (??). Not like the Wal-Mart models sold today. You have not stated the condition of the bike or it's components, so it's hard to give you good advice. For example, you could pick up an inexpensive front fork for say $125. But if you need to buy a front fork, rear shock, handlebars, brakes, new component group, etc., you'll spend $1000+.

Since you are a beginner MTBer, I would simply ride the hell out of the Mongoose upgrading as little as possible. After you have some miles and more MTB knowledge, then consider a new (or used) bike purchase.

  4. i dunno whats on that bike and im to lazy to findout but usually its better to just get something new rather than upgrading everything or what Scotty_Dog sounds good if the bikes an ok condition as it is
