Hi -
I started riding 3 years ago on an old Nishiki Oly-12. It's served me well, and I still intend to keep it for daily commuting, but I'd like to start doing a little charity competing and longer, faster training rides, and maybe some triathlons. I'm in great shape and exercise daily. Am a personal trainer, in fact.
I'm not looking to spend more than $500 or so, and am looking at 2 bikes:
A new KHS Flite 300 and a 1993 Cannondale Criteririum 3.0, with Shimano 105 components.
From what I've read the KHS is great beginner's bike but I will have to replace the wheels straight away...is this true? How much with this cost? Even for the 2005? I believe it's a steel alloy frame, and is definitely heavier than the Cannondale. But have heard the 3.0 is way too stiff. The KHS is also a 21-speed, the Cannondale a 12.
I guess I'm looking for insights into which of the attributes would benefit a beginning cyclist - lightness/stiffness or modern components, and in the resale value of both bikes.
Thanks in advance!
