It looks like a fast hybrid bike that you could put a rack and panniers on, so it would be a good commuter bike if it's 700 x 23c also. When you get more serious try a Trek Pilot 2.1 s.p.a. or Pilot 5.2 s.p.a.
When I look at hybrid bikes I prefer the Fuji ones. But I have 5 road bikes.
I have a Trek 2000 I bought in 98 and another Trek 2000, 06 model. When I buy Trek I feel pretty certain I am getting really good build quality and quality components and not paying a premium just for a name. I also have a Bianchi, which I bought because I love the colour, but with the Trek I suppose I just love the bike.
