  1. I have one spot in my left hamstring, about a third of the
way up from the back of my knee that has been a regular
problem. It is always the exact same spot, and generally
will be aggravated by a sudden surge of cycling power--the
left up-stroke--or a long grind of big gears--or trying to
get a higher cadence in a big gear. I am beginning to run
harder now, and I anticipate a problem from that as well.
Any ideas about how treat this? I have no background in this
sort of thing--would it be a "pull" or a "tear" that just
does not ever fully get repaired?

    Thanks

I've got what seems to be the same problem, which gives me
grief especially when I'm trying to run faster, but at any
pace if the run is long enough. It's been like this for
about a month. I thought stretching might help (I'm
extremely inflexible) but haven't found a hamstring stretch
that seems to make a difference, or even one that seems to
hit the point where it is stiff. Massage seems to make a bit
of difference (haven't actually been to a masseur yet, just
    doing it myself).

Consider a DEEP TISSUE massage and/or a SPORTS MASSAGE. Not a normal massage for the masses. First time will hurt like hades and make you sore for 2 days, but it may help. If it's a tear, it won't make any difference - so by process of elimination maybe it will help you determine what's going on?

    Good luck

  4. My bet is that your seat is slightly too high causing your
ham string to be stressed. Try dropping your seat about 1/8
inch to begin with. It will relive the stress and balance
the power cycle of your spin. Generally ham strings heal
swiftly but you need to relieve the stress. Be easy on it
    till it is feeling good.

  5. See a physical therapist or orthopedic doctor. May be a nerve problem (disc
protrusion irritating the sciatic nerve which runs down between the Hammies
and splits at the back of the knee). Just to rule it out. If it is a hammy
prob, rest easy bike..easy stretch and anti-inflamatories work for me, then
    a GRADUAL return to normal.
