There's my favorite restaurant that has a 20 (?) gallon aquarium and one giant black fish with white spots that I'd always look at if I was getting take-out. I'd watch and wave at him. He was an impressive fish.
Last night I walked in and the tank was being emptied. I asked what happened and the owner said the fish died. I felt so sad. It was 10 years old. I can't remember it's name dammit.
Some of the staff remembered my fondness for the fish and came over to share my sorrow.
Then in a moment of stupidity I joked "How'd he taste?" Wrong thing to say at the time but they were still nice to me. I wonder how my next cheesesteak will taste.
I certainly will appologize. It might have been a good luck fish. I'll have to ask what species it was, him or her and the name and report back.

That's the sort of stupid thing I would say! Don't aplogise. Forget it. Once said you can't retract it.
