  1. On the same theme as other recent posts, I need to post this because my
wife didn't think it was impressive.

Last triathlon season I was doing a 5km bike time trial every 4 weeks to
see how my training was going. I hadn't done one for a while but went
down to Blackburn velodrome today and got my 5km at an avg speed of
31.6kph and last time in June was 28.0kph. WooHoo the Sunday BR's are
paying off!! Ok for a lot of you those speeds are pretty ordinary but
that's almost a 6 min improvement on 20km for the standard sprint tri.
Ahh if only my running would improve like that.

I think the big difference the Sunday rides have made is that I can now
sustain a heart rate around 174bpm for the 5km (even if I did feel like
throwing up at the end) whereas in the past I would avg about 168bpm
when flat out for 5km. I'd say that is going to make a huge difference.

Indeed we are... well, you guys are, I'm off to Bairnsdale for a mate's
engagement party tonight, so I'll be a bit under the weather at 7.20
tomorrow, and a few hundred kays away. So it looks like you'll have to find
another fool to tow you from StA. Actually, that first time (three? weeks
ago) was StA to Diamo, but last week I felt a bit dodgy and we dropped a
couple off the back so I eased up early. We'll have to mark it on the map as
a designated time trial or something.
