  1. Busy day today and a really busy day tomorrow. Tonight's fare is going to
be easy and good. There is about 1/2 loaf of sourdough loaf left which I'll
slice into thick pieces and make patty melts out of using some ground chuck
in the fridge. I have like one or 2 bits of veggie in the crisper. 1
carrot, 1/2 green pepper, 2 green onions, 1 stalk celery which looks like
it has been gnawed on so I think I'm gonna make Musgovian stew.

    Musgovian Stew

1 1/2 lbs. ground chuck (use another 1/2 pound for the patty melts)
    1 green onion chopped
1 stalk celery chopped, stalks removed
    1 medium onion chopped
    1 carrot into small dice
    1 garlic clove crushed
1 19 oz. can tomatoes diced
1 16 oz. can beef broth
    1 1/3 C. water
1 pinch (big) of beef soup base
    1 t. salt
    1/2 t. pepper
    1 T. white vinegar
1 C. pearl barley, noodles, whatever ya' got. I'm using Acini de Pepe

Lightly brown beef in a Dutch oven. Drain off any excess fat. Add veggies,
and garlic. Saute until onion is transparent. Add remaining ingredients and
bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 30 to 45 minutes, stirring
    occasionally.

Make patties the remaining ground chuck. Grill, griddle, however you like
'em. I put them on the griddle. Cook burgers until just the right temp
that you like. Throw bread on griddle (one side of each piece buttered)
buttered side down. Butter top of slice while bottom slice is browning.
Flip bread and toast other side. Sit burger on slice, top with cheese and
another slice of bread. Warm until cheese melts. You can top these with
anything but my fave is sauteed onions and mushrooms.

Had 1/2 bag chopped walnuts in the pantry and a can of Eagle Sweetened
Condensed Milk. I made fudge by warming milk in pan, dumping in about a
bag and 1/2 semi-sweet chocolate chips and melted while stirring. When
chocolate melts and mixture is at a nice, smooth consistency, add 1 1/2
tablespoons vanilla and the walnuts. Mix it all up and put it in a wax
paper lined 9x9 pan or whatever size pan you have. Chill until firm, about
    1 1/2 - 2 hours.
