My girlfriend and myself had planned to go to Mt Buller in VIC between Xmas and New Year but due to the bush fires it is currently closed. We are now going to Canberra for a few days....
Does anyone have any recommendations for MTB tracks around the area? I've heard there are some good trails around Mt Stromlo...we down do dropoffs or anything too extreme..we are just looking for some good fun singletrack and techincal uphill/downhill...any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi,
Yes there are some good Mountain bike trails in the Canberra area but since I'm a roadie I cant give you too much advice. Mt Stromlo is good. They have opened up a new cycling facility near Mt stromlo for crit racing and off road use and I believe there are some nice trails there. Lots of Mtn bikers use the trails around Mt Ainslie as well which is close to town. The guys and gals in the cycle stores should be able to help you out.

Hi I belive Stromlo is closed until late January but Sparrows hil or Majura are great Mt biking. Check out www.corc.asn.au for details. They even have details on how to get to each place. As a newby I can highly recommend Sparrows Hill.
