Guys, this will seem like a random question. My commuter bike is a nice ca-1980 Peugeot, mid/upper range. It has a Peugeot-branded Stronglight crankset. I found a neat old artifact in a bike shop, which is an outer guard for the big ring that will both (i) keep the chain from falling off and (ii) more to my purpose, maybe keep my trousers from getting into the chain a bit. The ring has five holes, spaced the same as the chainwheel bolts. How do I mount it to the crank/chainwheel? Are there longer chainwheel bolts available to allow this, or what? I ask because in the bike store the guy had no clue. Many thanks.
