what are people choices on the peddle. receiving bike soon thinking non clipless but still considering that option. thkis is on mountain bike giant xtc.

Non-clipless? You have two basic different pedal types, one is platform pedals AKA flatties. Some of these can be fitted with straps/clips. The other is SPD, or clipless, which you can get in either road or MTB versions. Can't help you with flatties much. Plastic ones tend to become slippery eventually. Expensive Metal ones can even have replaceable studs for grip. Cheap ones may have bad bearing life, but hey, they're cheap enough to replace frequently. Expensive ones might make you unhappy when you bang them up against a rock. Crank Brothers don't last long, but they're easily serviceable and have excellent mud/snow clearing ability. Shimano are very solid and dependable. Would probably go with Time if I hadn't had CB for all my bikes. Can't help with road type pedals.

ended up with the shimano saints mx80. unfortunately rush decision due to the fitting and bike store not having much options. only issue I have is that the tires I got was not the tires spec on the description. got maxxis crossmark vs schwalbe racing ralphs.

got to ask them why today.

I'm betting that somewhere on the manufacturer's site it says: "specification may change without notice".

I think what the OP calls non-clipless is the platformers. I'm thinking about toe clips for mine. So far, I'm just not seeing clipless for my riding though I still want to make them work for me.

I've used two sided SPS pedals for years with no issue, after you get used to finding just the right spot in clipping in you'll be sold and most likely not go back to platforms.
