Planning a 10 miler for Saturday starting at Once Brewed but want to visit the most northerly illegal English distillery at Burn Divot NY 69395 70843 http://www.trigpointinguk.com/trigs/trig-details.php?t=1775. I want to impress my walking buddies with tales of this distillery, the farmer who owns this land once told me the tale and even showed me a rough pasture field which showed signs of historic ridge and fallow grooves where he said barley was grown to distil. I find it hard to believe because even in the most unforgiving of summers this is not arable land. Google has not thrown anything up but a Northumbrian folk song of the same name. Apparently it was a popular stop off for shepherds returning from mart. Can anyone verify this tale or was I having my leg pulled?
Seen the website before as I found out my villiage was once a group of isolated dwellings and a hospital for Lepers. It's a very good site! The walk is now postponed for a week as my walking buddies want to watch the England game.

Niether. We are planning on starting near Once Brewed on the military road, and walking along Crag lough past hotbanks farm and then just picking a bearing and following that until our legs hurt! Usually we take turns in planning a route once every fortnight.
