The Olympic is more fun than the Tour de France. The first week of the
TDF, minus the last 2 km of each stage or the point in a breakway where
they start attacking each other, is boring as hell. It takes too long
for everything to play out, and 70% of the time they show them riding in
a big group, which is boring, and if I want to watch bike riders in a
big group that does nothing except average 32mph, I will ride the group
ride.

Olympics has a variety and you get bored less easilerly.

Precisely. And that is why Davey is giving serious thought to dropping the
Tour de France from his ``Happy Birthday`` criteria.

Only the consequential elimination of numerous otherwise forgotten bike racers
from a byegone era from the list gives cause for indecision here.

A lady Davey has known for countless years and a lifelong avid Tour spectator
confided that she ``Hadn't watched much Tour'' this year, and in contrast to
her usual pilgrimage to several Start/Finish towns had travelled solely to
Paris for the finish which is no big deal since she lives in Gif sur Yvette,
(roughly out Orsay/Orly way) citing the fact that the race was ``Boring,'' and
suggested that the fans would be much better served by a return to the
Heroic era since the Bionic era has produced nothing more than an increasingly
Vulgar Spectacle orchestrated by Capitalists with the winner metaphorically
trundled around the Hexagon in a Wheel-Chair.

Davey is entirely in agreement. Both the Tour and the Olympic Follies are in
serious danger of Careening out of Control as the Benelux Boys of the UCI and
IOC respectively are more than aware. Hopefully the Giro and Vuelta will
retain some characteristics of real Bike Races. But even this is doubtful
since the last real Old Style Vuelta was in 1994 after the UCI Politburo [censored]
celebrated the 50th edition in 1995 by booting it into September and seem to
be further set to debase the Giro and Vuelta in favour of the new 2005 UCI World
Order. A course which if pursued will sound the Death Knell for Bike Racing.
