Today Vernon & I had a joint business meeting up in Holt. As he was doing
other stuff before & after said meeting, he took car, I cycled.
Got to meeting, man-in-charge says, "You look fit. How far have you cycled?"
So I told him that today would be a 40-odd mile round trip and I swear I
heard the thud of his bottom jaw dropping on the floor 🙂 Then I got a
puzzled, "Why?" So I said "Vernon & I have other separate stuff to do, so I
choose to cycle." Cue jaw dropping on floor again.
Talking to some others at meeting, the reaction to me cycling was a mixture
of "Are you nuts?" "What time did you have to set off to get here?" "I
couldn't cycle more than a couple of miles!" "Sounds too much like hard work
to me!" to stunned silence.... This interesting mix of reactions was
primarily from those people attending who looked even larger than I did at
my fattest who then went on to tell me they just didn't have the time for
exercise. At least when I was hugely fat I was vaguely fit as I exercised
regularly through my cycling. Having been in the position where I genuinely
couldn't exercise due to a chronic illness, I loathe being unable to
exercise, even if it's just for half-an-hour it's better than nothing.
In three days this week I've done over 100 miles, so that's not bad going.
If the weather forecast for tomorrow holds up to be true I'll get out on my
bike again. I want to make the most of this fine weather!
