  1. Hello,

I am in search of a new stem, and came across this:
    http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?brand=5067&sku=12674

I though i'd look around for any opinions and found some old (ca 1990)
posts about some stems, particularly ones that clamp behind the
handlebar, being prone to failure. In particular, this page:
    http://www.bikexprt.com/witness/product/stems.htm

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with stem I mentioned
above, and wanted to make sure this wasn;t one of the problem stems.
Judging by the pictures, the stem i am interested in seems to be a
different design than the one pictured in the failure, and I am hoping
that this new design fixes the problems found in the failure prone ones.
    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

  2. Modolo had some stems recalled, such as the type shown on John Allen's
    web page http://www.bikexprt.com/witness/product/stems.htm .

The Modolo stem you found for sale at Nashbar
    http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?brand=5067&sku=12674
was made after the recall, and has a thicker section where the old ones
broke. It's a nice stem, and if you like it in other respects, go for
    it!
