Bill, moderated newsgroups may stop posters from posting but
don't stop readers from reading (copying, forwarding
    messages etc).

    cancer?

There's 1500 prostate subscribers currently on the private
ACOR mail list acor.orgacor.org Those are moderated. You
have to click on mail lists, then P, then the Prostate one,
then "join", they ask for your "name" and a valid e-mail
address. They e-mail you to confirm when you can start
reading and sending messages. The FAQ's for the ACOR lists
    are there also.

If it's not about cancer, the Yahoo Groups maybe but some of
those can also be read and/or there may be problems with
people picking up email addresses or personal info etc
    there. I don't know. HTH J
