I got in a transaction a MTB cassette hubset made by "T-Gear". They have a
nice finish on them, and they are light, but I wonder if they are worth
lacing up into a wheel. The reason I wonder is that the cassette side of
the rear hub is a standard Shimano freehub. The left side has a cartridge
bearing. From what I understand about bike bearings, the cup and cone
bearings in the freehub need some preload. The cartridge bearing should not
want any preload.
This gets more complicated when the force generated by the skewer is
included.
So is this hub a mixed-up mess destined for an early demise?
Any other similar hub designs out there?
Why didn't they put cup and cone bearings on both sides?
