It would appear that Milram are using a pretty thorough checking system.

And it looks like they've also adopted a zero tolerance attitude where they detect any anomalies.

I agree - haemocrit levels should be decreasing toward the end of a three week GT or long stage race.

Is Astarloa one of the suspicious cases that was found by UCI?

It's not clear to me whether this was an internal control (like Gonchar) or whether this was part of the UCI's biopassport.

Does anyone know?

So what does UCI do if they go to a team and tell them rider x has very suspicious vaules and the team says "so what?"

Either way my impression is that whether internal control or biopassport, it's fairly likely to not stick in court.
