able to run for at least 2 weeks. I realize that when increasing
mileage, 10% per week is the general rule. Does this rule work in
reverse for a layoff? When I am able to run again, what percentage of
my previous mileage would be reasonable?
Thanks
In a two week layoff, you won't lose much at all. Your aerobic
conditioning will be almost basically the same, particularly if your
training was solid for a while beforehand.
You will lose some speed, but that's quick to get back after such
a short while.
As long as the shoulder is holding out, I would pretty well get right
back into it, clearly taking it easy pace-wise for the first few days
back, but be more-or-less back to normal training by the end of
the week.
Best of luck with a quick recovery. Perhaps a recumbent bike
could be utilized comfortably enough while recovering, before
you are able to run. That would smooth the transition even more.
