  1. When I look at the days news in the group and see that 50% of the posts are from this angry person
Mike Vandemann, and 100% of the posts are on this ridiculously overdone topic

    1. I do not read any of the posts. I "catchup" them all and go to the
next group. I suspect most other people are doing the same.

    2. I get one notch closer to un-subscribing from this group, at least temporarily

It reminds me of the neighbors barking dog when it's left alone: I suppose it is legitimately
unhappy about something, but eventually Mommy comes home, or it gets worn out, and it stops, and
life goes on, and other things are addressed.

I also wonder what Mike was like in grammar school: Was he the bully? Did he talk out a lot and
dominate in the classroom. Was he always right? What do his siblings think about him? Did any of
them stand up to him? Did his parents beat him?

    He's still posting in here?

I've been using Mozilla news filters for a while now. Once I set them up properly, they made it so I
never see any thread in which he posts.

Yes, I do the same with SLRN. The original poster uses Gnus, which almost certainly has the same
capability. Without the Vandemann threads this is quite a pleasant, low-traffic group.

"Naturally, the common people don't want war. But, after all, it is the leaders of a country who
determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along. All you have to do is
tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing
the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
    - Hermann Goering

  4. He's not the problem. As long as we keep replying, he'll keep at it. He's probably some 9th grader,
having a ball from grown-ups paying so much attention to him. There are hundreds like him in other
NGs and they are successfuly ignored - why can't you do the same?

That's what he wants, for sure. Nothing gives Mike more pleasure than spoiling other people's fun.
