A few months ago I posted a question about manageable distances in 24 hour races.
In the spirit of pointless mathematical exercises, Dan Connelly suggested a formula that could be used to estimate times for distances based on some know times for shorter distances.
Last Tuesday I rode a 10km TT, and on Saturday I rode a 24 hour race. Both were over very similar terrain, about 1/2 flat, 1/2 short semi- steep hills, and windy. I managed the 10km in 15:40. According to the formula this means I should have managed 585km in 24 hours. I managed 592km.
A formula accurate to 1-2%! Hey Dan, have you thought about a formula for lotto numbers?
