    Hi all,

    First trip here. I don't know much about modern bikes other than that I want one 🙂

    I'm currently using a 15 year old Mountain Bike that has held up well but it's time to move up to a faster and smoother ride.

    I'm currently cycling 10 miles a day on pavement. I live in a cold winter climate so I will be using an indoor bike trainer during the cold/snowy months. Cycling will be my primary form of excercise with perhaps some official races once I've trained enough.

    So, I'm looking for a road racing bike with a budget < $1000.

    The current bike that I'm looking at is a Mercier 2006 Aero TT (< $800 shipped) http://bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/aerott.htm

    Is this a good bike for the money? Does anyone have experience with one of them? Or, can anyone suggest something else?

    My main goal is to get a great bike that I can use as described above as well as a lot of bang for the buck.

    i looked at the bike and decided to buy from my lbs. for me it was the right decision. they gave me great deals on everything i need, and they are always there if something goes wrong.

    i ended up with a felt and so far i love it.
    i road several bikes and this one took the cake for what i had to spend (about the same as you)

    Thanks! I'm going to keep looking around locally to see if anyone has it or something else similar for this price that I like. I would feel much better having ridden it before buying it!

    The big question, size, does it fit?

    If you are looking to do normal, mass-start road races, you will need to remove the aerobar from that bike.
    I suggest going to a LBS, at very least for your first bike. They will be able to get you on a bike that is the right size for you and set it up to fit properly. An improper fitting bike can cause a lot of physical problems down the road.
