I walked Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn) on Saturday and as it was all cloud
from 500m upwards I haven't a clue what the mountain looks like or
where the path went. I got the track on my GPS OK although the
batteries ran out right at the summit and I wasn't too keen to take off
my rucksack for the spares in the high wind. As a result I'm looking
for a good mapping program with a 3d view so I can see where I was.
The demos of Anquet, Tracklogs and Memory Map all seems quite good, and
I'm fairly impressed with Anquet. I can't get 3d to work in Memory Map
though. I've WinXP Pro SP1, DirectX 9.0b, and have tried the advice on
their site, but no joy. I've an Nvidia RIVA TNT2 M64 card. Has anyone
else had terminal problems with this software (and I know about the
licensing debate!)

I just got a reply from Justin on the MM support forums that their
software uses a function not supported by this card. Shame they don't
publish a compatability list on the site, it would have saved me the
time testing it. Anquet and Tracklogs work fine in 3D mode though. -
Speaking of Memory Map 3D problems...
...using the Memory Map Lake District software, I often find that the 3D
view 'splits down the middle' (for want of a better description). What I mean is, as I rotate the 3D view, in certain positions and in
certain directions, the map suddenly splits down the middle.. as I
continue to rotate, the 'split' gets wider until the whole map
disappears.Sorry if this sounds like a fairly numpty description but I'm not very
experienced with 3D software. It's very annoying though; anyone else
experienced this?Quoted message said:
