Here's my story ...
Hadn't been on a bike in about 4 years when my brother-in-law asked me to crew for him in the Furnace Creek 508 (the508.comthe508.comOpen ↗) in October of 2004. To put it mildly, it was an incredible experience. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of that 5 day adventure, which included me driving all but 3 hours behind the wheel of his parent's van.
Well ... I bought a new road bike in December of 2004. (lemondbikes.combuenos aires.shtmlOpen ↗) Took me awhile (late January) before I had a chance to special order some shoes (I've got a wide foot) and get the bike set up. Since then, I've tried to ride 3-4 times a week. Last Friday (March 4, 2005) I did my longest ride to date: 32.5 miles in about 2 hours and a total of 1300 feet in climbs. My goal is to do a century by the end of this year - I think I've got a good shot!
My brother-in-law plans to do the 508 again this year, and I can't wait. This time I hope to be able to provide more than just navigational and financial assistance.
See you on the road ...
