Taking two days off from work.
Todays chores were to find some hamster wheels and suitable
food/dust/water bowls for the pets that had to be relocated since they
were pestering their mom too much.
On the other side of he pet shop is, all jokes aside, a very nicely
stocked Asian food store.
This got me to thinking about what dinner was going to be.
Hmm... Fresh Basil that is better quality than the stuff at the local
store. Good quality spinach, fresh [censored] mushrooms and green onions
for cheap.
Green onions and [censored]? What if I were to go over to the fish
section and get some fresh fish and cook up something unusual for
dinner?
So over to the fish section and I found some fresh Croaker. Dinner
was solved. Pan fried croaker with bread crumbs and a side of sauteed
mushrooms and green onions. And to top it off some miso soup. Total
cooking time including fish cleaning was about 20 minutes.
5824 doesn't like fish. Fish with head still on? You can forget it.
But I have learned over time that Mari doesn't like a lot of things
because of the way they were preped which have left an overall bad
taste in her mouth. So if I cook it she normally will try it. So far
I have only made about 2 dishes in the course of two and a half years
that she couldn't eat.
It took her a long time to eat it because she was afraid of swallowing
one of the fine bones but she did eat the whole thing minus the
bones. We might be having this more often. By the time I grow bored
with it she will be a pro at picking out small bones and eating
without the fear that she will swallow one of the bones and die
because it got lodged in her throat.
Funny thing about pan fried breaded croaker. It isn't Asian. It
isn't Mexican. It isn't American. It is one of those universal
dishes that exists in Asia and the Americas. It might be one of the
few truly international dishes.
