Wasn't it totally rebuilt for the 1986 Commonwealth Games? There was a
Edinburgh local politician who was advocating demolishing it straight
after the games were over.

Don't be sad. Think of all the youngsters that can be introduced to
track cycling in a facility that will be available in all weathers. As
they are only 50 or so miles apart, I don't know if tracks in both
Glasgow and Edinburgh would be viable. IMHO, I think it's best to have
one super centre within that distance.

The chances of kids in Edinburgh going to Glasgow on a weekly basis
can be estimated by the number of kids from Glasgow who currently go
to Meadowbank. Precisely 0.

There is a large and thriving youth cycle club based at meadowbank.
With no facility to train on the council are effectively telling them
to get stuffed. What is needed is a replacement facility - probably
not a 250m velodrome, but more like a 400m tarmac outdoor one like
Caird Park. Suitable for training and racing but not too intimidating
for beginners.
