Well it's been three weeks since I've been on a bike. I decided it was about
time to do something before I got too fat to ride (Definition of being fat
courtesy of Big Rick "Fat is when you can't see your D@#k because of your
belly"😉. Well I wasn't quite to that point but I was getting there. So I
pried the remote from my hand, got off the couch and loaded the bike on the
Jeep. I then proceeded to drive the 2.5 miles (hey I was still feeling a
little lazy) to the Peavine, Rancho trailhead.
The afternoon was just excellent, just enough wind to cool the temperature
down but not enough to hamper my riding. I got on the bike and proceeded up
the new Evans Canyon trail then the old "new" singletrack. From there it was
a fast downhill to 3 trees. I was feeling OK, so it was up to Poeville I go.
By the time I got to Poeville I was seriously thinking of turning back, but
what the heck, a little more uphill and then it'll be all downhill. I turned
off on a little Jeep Trail that I have always wanted to ride and since I
wasn't in any hurry decided to take it. After about a half mile, I stopped
to take in the view and a sip of water. Behind me and around the corner I
heard something running, I figured it was someone's dog. The first thing
that flashed through my mind was dam that's a big jackrabbit but what's up
with the spots. It turns out to be a little fawn, spots and all. The little
sucker rounded the corner and put on the brakes. He looked up at me with an
expression like "What the f#@k did you stop for" and a few seconds latter
bounded off into the sagebrush. I measured the distance from my bike to his
hoof prints and dang he was only four feet from me. I must say he had pretty
good brakes. Maybe I could patent them "Bambi Disc Brakes".
Well it was back on the trail for about 7 miles of downhill and some new
singletrack. All in all, it felt good, 19 miles, 3000 ft. The best thing is
I'm back on the bike.
