Sean is asking for advice on what type of rims to try next (25-28mm tyres). I suggested MA2, as mine is still relatively unworn at 8000miles, but we can't find a source any more.
On another point, John & me had a mutual wobble on the way back from the beer festival on Friday night, and some part of his bike ripped a couple of spokes out of my front wheel. The interesting bit is that the failure was the spoke nipples pulling in half, the rim and the spoke that didn't wrap round the axle appearing undamaged. I'd never thought of that as a possibility

There was a batch of really bad shimano brake blocks that were soft enough to get bits of grit embeded in them. The grit would then gouge out chuncks of rim that would then stick in the block to continue the process. I had some on my tiagra brakes that i bought about a year ago, replaced them with kool stops.

Mavic stopped making MA2's some time ago.

The weight of Open Pros varies a lot due to the manufacturing process - can be as much as 50 grams difference between examples (with same versions & n/o holes)! That means some sidewalls will be thinner than others so you might have been unlucky in getting a very light one (in this respect).

Collectors items now they've been discontinued - with prices to match.
I'm not sure what rim to suggest: probably a non-machined one will be best. Kool Stop Salmon brake blocks will also help as will using the rear brake as little as possible in the rain.
