Massage Schools in LA Area

hey brenda!
i've been a massage therapist for over two years now in LA and have to
say that i wish i knew what i know now when deciding on schools. so,
i'd love to share the knowledge that i've gained after going to
several massage schools here in LA and meeting therapists from various
other schools:

IPPT: this is the school that i went to. and if i had it to
do over again, i never would have stepped through those
doors. i will give them this: they teach a great technique.
but that's mostly what you learn--one technique. they're not
very good at teaching how to work with and understand the
body as if each body is different, which it
is. it's a great school to get some quick easy hours and
apply for your license. not much else.

Shiatsu School of CA (in santa monica)

interested in learning shiatsu, this is THE school to go to.
i went here after my training at IPPT and learned infinitely
more about health and healing in a 150-hour course than i
did after 250 hours at IPPT. this course was seriously life-
changing. they have amazing, amazing teachers here. and
amazing students as well.

IPSB (ipsb.com):Open ↗ now, if i had it to do all over
again, this is the school i would go to. i have heard
nothing but amazing things about this school from
everyone who went there. they have a very highly-regarded
program. i have never heard anything but amazing things
about this school. and everyone i know who didn't go
there, wishes they had!

CA Healing Arts: i've heard mixed reviews about this
school. some people liked it, some people thought the
education was lacking. and, from working with people who
have graduated from this school, i can say that generally
they weren't as sought after as graduates from other
schools (though that's all relative...it's all about what
you do with what your taught and you can have great
therapists coming out of crappy schools and crappy
therapists coming out of great schools).

Santa Monica Massage school: everyone who went here
generally has good things to say about it. i've taken some
seminars there that were ok. i'm just not blown away by
it, or the therapists i've met who graduated there for
some reason.

Hi Shivon, Thank you for the "reviews"! Being new in town,
often the only information I can find is from the schools
themselves. It's great to hear from someone who's had
firsthand experience with them. Do you know if there is a
forum in LA for therapists to exchange information? I am
VERY early in the game and would love to find a place to
chat with those of you who "wish you knew then..." 🙂 Brenda

hey brenda... no problem! i hope my info helps you out. as
for a forum...i actually have no idea. this is actually the
first one i've found, though i guess i haven't really been
looking and just kind of stumbled upon this one. you'll
definitely end up making contacts in school and at work.
unfortunately, most of us massage therapists have very
varied and unpredictable schedules, so it's hard to get
together and keep really close contact...
