hi, i prefer a printed and detailed map where you can pinpoint the route on secondary roads + Google earth for elevation profiles, bare in mind that small elevation ups and downs can be a factor to consider on a loaded touring bike, so it is better to know where those roads are.
80 to 100 kilometers per day is an advisable distance to cover, touring is always a bit of an adventure so you have to make decisions on the road regarding where you will sleep and where you can buy food supplies for example.
That's roughly the distance i was thinking to cover, which is good because my other problem was how far to go each day. I'm a little concerned though, that a map will be a bit bulky to carry and possibly awkward to navigate with.
Thanks for the advice though, i'll definetly bear it in mind.
people you cross by on the road can tell you also the best way to go for the town you target on your daily schedule, they will think you are crazy but still give you good directions !
