  1. this is my first year back in racing after a long layoff.

my riding seemed to come on strongly in april and early may when i rode my first tt's of this year, my 20 min watts increasing from circa 230 to 270. however now i feel like i've plateau'd a bit - i ride a 10 mile event every week and my time seems to be only 5-10 seconds faster on average.

this is in spite of training thursdays, saturday & sunday, in addition to the event on tuesday.

    issues:
    - am i being unrealistic about levels of improvement. 1 second a mile hardly seems like much for all the effort im putting in
    - in fact its depressing, im sick of being beaten by the same people, and i dont know if i will reach my objectives at this pace of improvement
    - sometimes apathy sets in, its a bit of an effort to train without noticeable improvements, yet i know this sport is all about persistance so i go out and grind the pedals anyway.

    whats the answer?!

sounds like a nice initial improvement you've had. if you're performance has plateaued it would seem to be that your training is no longer effective.

perhaps you are doing the same training now as you were when you were going from 230 to 270 W? most likely you need to change your training and see what is limiting you. if you're unsure what your limiter is or how to change your training or to help with your "apathy" then a coach will be able to help you. please give us a shout, we can help you improve.
