  1. Hi guys,

I'm new to road biking and have just called my lbs and asked what the cheapest entry level bikes they had were. He said that there was a Malver Star road bike for $450 Au and a Giant for $999 AU.

I have never ridden a road biek before and not completely sure whether this is going to be a hobby I will take up, i was just wondering if this Malvern star is good enough as i had the impression they were not a decent bike manufacturer.

Would this Malvern star bike fullfill my needs as a beginner cyclist or would it be better for me to buy a Giant or Trek 1000 for about $1000 AU?

Thanks in advance for your help

    Nashy

  2. I would err towards the Giant/Trek 1000 type bike. A lot of the sub-$800 road bikes I've seen advertised here and there have had awful, massively out-of-date (or both!) componentry on them.

Malvern Star is a local recreational bike brand. Giant seem to cover every base, from quality recreational bikes to Herr Ullrich's Tour de France bike.. 😉
