  1. well they never replied to my email, just as well as I have found one
10 min from the apartment, E15 a day (Cala Bona) off to collect it

Highly recommended, the hire shop seems to make most of their dosh
from electric scooters so offer very good road bikes for peanuts; I
got a Pinarello 27 speed, Look pedals included (also Veloce changers
;-( ). A nice flat 50k run up to Inca then a _character building_
hairpin ride up to Lluc, from there up past the Sa Calobra road to the
Blue Gorge reservoir, never did find out if one can ride up to the
Puig Mayor,it was time to turn back for the run down to Pollenca, the
heat hits you half way down. I then went back out to the coast at Ca'n
Picafort and over the top to Arta before a lumpy ride back to Cala
Bona, 184km in all. No wonder all the pros use the island for
    training!
NB saw quite a few more bike hire shops offering perfectly good road
bikes, plus of course MTB's and multi-seater pedal-buses.

It's a military base and normally the road is closed. Which is
    annoying!

Yes that's what it said in my 12 year old guide book, but the (Spanish) map showed it as a viewpoint. It is still covered in various military gubbins, when I was there in 1990 there was "OTAN NO" (Spanish for NATO) graffiti everywhere but obviously things have not changed since the collapse of the Eastern bloc etc, there is another massive military base to the SE of Palma on top of a hill. Something else that has changed for the better is that they are re-opening the narrow gauge railways Eastwards from Inca to Manacor and possibly Alcudia.
