On behalf of a friend,🙄 While looking at the deal of a lifetime on a '06Pinarello, Galileo.
The question is this... After being fit for a 600mm Trek 1200, he comes across this Galileo. It is 560mm. He had the chance to ride it today and wants to make this bike work. IMO as a newbe, Perhaps,because Pinarello takes its frame sizes from on-center measurements as opposed to Trek measuring from outside dimenions. Could we assume that this might make for this frame size being smaller? If the bike is fit with a sway back style seat post and a longer stem, could this bike not fit him?
He is in a real toss-up between the two bikes...😕 Any advice on making this Galileo work for him would be appreciated.😉
The manufacturers size is not always comparing apples to apples. You need to compare the specific geometry of each, and see if you can get the same touch points with each frame with longer stem, seatpost setback, etc.
My guess is it is probably too much of a reduction to be optimal. I like to ride a smaller frame than I should for a bigger drop to the bars, but it is only one size. If you look at taller pros, they do this too (ride smaller frame) with components to match.
