Make a Minimum Impact

Am I missing irony here? Are you the same...erm..."Mcploppy" who posted the
article recently about daddy participating in the Caledonian Challenge? An
event which seems to require the construction of numerous marquees along the
route of the WHW? (Well, *that* won't damage the vegetation underneath,
will it!). An event which requires an Army helicopter to scuttle up and
down the route all day to deliver dry socks to the weary executives? An
event which cannot but help itself turn an innocent field into a quagmire as
the exhausted city gents slump into their Volvos at the end of their
challenge, a quagmire which takes the entire summer to heal? An event which
after its passage some might say leaves a trail of plastic bottles, crisp
bags and other rubbish? If you are, did the thought not cross your mind
that posting a link to an article about making a minum impact might seem
ironic in the extreme?
As an aside, in glancing through the referenced article, I did wonder if its
effort to add flesh (unnecessarily in my humble opinion) to the concept of
"take only pictures, leave only footprints" before hammering it to death
completely by suggesting that the "pack it in, pack it out" principle might
be best expressed by the use of portaloos, well I wondered if it might just
be missing the point just a tiny little bit.....

Thanks for your reply, Yes it is the same McPloppy that posts articles about
his dads walks etc.
Yes I believe that the article is meant to "add flesh to the concept of
"take only pictures, leave only footprints""

Well if all the 1600 participants and the organisers apply the principles
in the article, IMO damage would be limited.

However, I suppose it could be argued that picture "cc04-7" does show
lots of people only leaving footprints.

It's also interesting to note the "Mcploppy" Caledonian Challenge team
are considering a 2005 attempt on the 24 hour three peaks. Does the
team consider this "challenge" to be an environmentally friendly exploit
with minimal impact?

I'm not going to comment on the team. I am not part of the team. There is no
"Mcploppy" Caledonian Challenge team.
The team my dad was part of was team Step by Step. If you have a look at my
dad's website, you will find his e-mail address, perhaps you could ask him
yourself if the team consider this "challenge" to be an environmentally
friendly exploit with minimal impact? :-)
