I ordered something from Cotswold Outdoors about 3 weeks ago. They now phone me up and tell me they haven't delivered it because I haven't been there to sign for it. Bit inconvenient. On the few other times I've ordered stuff in such a way it's been delivered by royal mail who leave a card and I can just walk up the road and pick it up. Cotswold don't appear to use royal mail. Does any one know how Field and Trek or Snow and Rock for example send their mail orders out?
Or generally, does anyone have any good or bad experiences of buying by mail order from different companies?
I ordered stuff from Field and Trek on 5th October. It was sent on 7th via Royal Mail but has not arrived. I'm told that if it does not arrive by Friday (tomorrow) I can phone them up and they'll investigate and/or send a replacement.
I have a tame postman. He knows I'm always out, so he signs the card, puts it through my door, and leaves the parcel somewhere safe for me. It works very well, and there's no risk to me!

Although they are "supposed" to deliver to the same address as on the card, I have found mail order companies who will deliver to different addresses (eg work). This is very convenient if there's no- one at home all day but does require that your employer doesn't mind these deliveries arriving.

But an extreme risk to him! We aren't supposed to do that anymore because of parcels going "missing." I have an accomodation address on my round (tame porter at a block of flats) where I get stuff delivered to me as the hours of my callers office (not where I work) are seriously inconvenient, 8.00-1300 M-F and 7.00-12.00 Sa.
The problem of getting stuff delivered is compounded by some companies refusing to deliver to addresses other than that of the credit card.
