I have an eXplorist 100. Bought it at Christmas from ebay, cost about £70.00
if memory serves.

As regards use, remember its an entry level GPS.

No Base Map
No ways points, add your own, suites me fine
No Altimeter
Standalone, so are all the eXplorist, so no PC hook up
BW Screen, but Good
fits into my mobile phone case
Batteries last about 26 hours

As an entry level GPS it's good. I enjoy it

If I upgrade I know what else I want from a GPS but for £70.00ish its a good
solid GPS

I agree with all the above and add that without the PC interface the
user is unable to apply software updates which may fix bugs or add new
features. I would not be happy without being able to do that.

It is interesting how almost all receivers released over the last 8 or
so years had PC interfaces but suddenly the Geko 101 and the eXplorist
(100 - 300) pop out without them. I think it is a marketing thing trying
to tempt people onto the GPS ladder with cheaper units hoping that they
will upgrade to better equipped models later.

For the OP my most recent purchase was a Garmin Geko 201 which can be
had for just under 92 GBP from gpsw.co.uk. It is small, light, takes
AAAs like my headtorch and has good features for a basic GPS.
