Lumotec bracket

  1. I had bodged a bracket to put a B&M Lumotec on my handlebars --
    took an oldfashioned forkblade dynamo bracket and twisted the tip
    with pliers. Worked fine for about 6 months but gave up the ghost
    very annoyingly as I set out for a dusk ride on Saturday.

    Given the brackets that came with it were useless -- solid but
    useless -- what's the best source of replacements?

    I made one using a Minoura Space Grip I was given.

    Approx 0.5in long pice of aluminium angle bolted into the bar of the space
    grip (guess at M5 nut and bolt), and the other face of angle drilled to
    clear the bolt of the B&M lamp. Rounded the corners off with a file to
    clear the slight recess in the B&M mouldings.

    Slightly posher version could be made by putting a long stud longways
    through the space-grip bar, and use a couple of nuts on the end to space the
    lamp off the end. If doing this, I'd shorten the length of the space-grip
    bar. If you also added a couple of the domed washers fitted to many MTB
    brake blocks, the lamp would be fine-tunable for left-right until the nuts
    are tightened.

    Googling leads me to places like

    convincing candidate is the R&M mount. However, I draw a blank
    trying to find a source nearer home.

    I wouldn't want to state my reputation on it, but I'd be tempted to try the
    bracket from many a "free" reflector fitted to bikes at point of sale. The
    bracket is in two parts, a collar which is bolted around a tube (eg seat
    tube) and second part which carries the reflector. I'd try to do without
    the second part if it would fit, then add some studding (with spacing nuts
    and washers) to carry the lamps. It would look somewhat similar to the
    pictures in the first URL.

    Or a Space Grip is about a tenner in the shops.

    Another cheap solution is made from a flat aluminium coat hanger (as used in
    a million schools and similar buildings). Can make a very strong bracket
    for mounting behind the bolts of a dual-pivot brake (friend made one for his
    winter bike).
