    Teenage bicyclist hurt in collision

A 17-year-old Springfield boy was injured Tuesday when his
bicycle and a pickup truck collided on West Sixth Avenue
    near Chambers Street.

Joseph Clifford Benner IV was riding his bike west on Sixth
    about 12:20
p.m. when he suddenly darted in front of the pickup, police
said. Benner, who wasn't wearing a helmet, suffered
multiple broken bones but no apparent head injury,
    police said.

Agent Tom Shulke studies the site where a cyclist was struck
    on Sixth Avenue on Tuesday.

He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in serious
    condition, police said.

The truck driver wasn't able to avoid the collision and
    wasn't cited, police said.

Sixth Avenue was closed to traffic for about 2 1/2 hours
    while officers investigated the accident.
