Belting down William Street at about 17:45 this evening,
having hit the Flinders Lane tram lines particularly hard, I
heard something heavy and plastic following me down the
road. Assuming it had come off my bike, I had a look around
to make sure everything was still attached. Computer -
check. Lights - check. False leg - err whatever. Anyway,
it's not until I'm home and try to lock my bike up....
ahhhhh! So that's what it was.
Despite heading back to the scene 30 minutes later and
having a good scout around (including under parked cars,
much to the amusement of passers-by), my precious lock had
gone. I'm very keen to get it back, not only because it will
be a good $100 to replace (it's an Abus Manhattan), but it
has faithfully protected my bike for over two years,
including an unsuccessful attack by 5 yoofs in central
London last February.
So in the vague hope they are reading this, if anyone has
picked a U-lock in central Melbourne, or if they can suggest
a reasonably-priced replacement, I'd be very glad to hear
from them.
Cheers, Craigster
