Well at least he did solve the problem of mounting and dismounting.....

Some years back a neighborhood kid built some stilts. Quite nice ones,
that strapped to his legs (leaving his hands free) and made out of
aluminum all brazed together, and that lifted him about six feet into
the air. I'd see him walking around town on them in the summer time, but
what I eventually found out when I asked him about them was kind of
surprising--he wasn't just walking around in his driveway, or around the
house. He was walking to friends' houses, or to the convenience store,
or other places fairly nearby.

He commented once that it was a rather odd sensation to be able to walk
and make six-foot strides; a lot of places he'd be reluctant to walk to
normally, didn't seem nearly as far on the stilts. Places that he used
to ride a bike to, he was walking instead.
