A friend and I, both 18 and completely inexperienced, are looking into starting cycling as means of fitness/exercise. We intend to stick predominantly to roads and are wondering what kind of bike we should be getting. We want to spend around £500 if possible.
What kind of bike would you advise and why? Do you have any other tips regarding this kind of activity?
Are you saying your wanting to spend 500 pounds total for both bikes are for each bike? In American dollars that's $800 dollars rounded up. If that's the amount for both bikes then your spending about 250 pounds or $400 dollars for each bike and that's a good price point for a beginner bike; if your spending $800 for each bike I think that's excessive for a first bike. The reason I think that's excessive is because most people with the best intentions in the world, spend a bunch of money on a bike and are all excited about riding...but then within 3 months the excite dies because they didn't think there would be that much work involved, or they pushed themselves too hard to be a superbiker and got fried in the process. So then their nice expensive bikes becomes garage art were it sets collecting dust for the next 30 years or so.
So start out cheap, if in a year your still riding and enjoying it and you know you found a life long passion then buy a better bike at that time.
