things. Temp anything from 15 deg C up to 22 deg C ish but will vary. Compared to NY you will find
it considerably warmer, wetter and more humid. You will not need thick winter wear.

You should have no problem communication your medical needs in HK.

I lived in HK 1980 - 1984 and had no problems getting medical supplies/treatment but that was before
the present regime.

My daughter is currently on winter break, and visiting in the US

The weather in Beijing is about the same as NY, but LOTS more smog - envision LA smog run amok, in
winter New York City. Not much snow, as they are in a drought.

Beijing United Family hospital honors Blue Cross. at least as much as any out-of-state hospital does
(some of your benefits may be in home state only).

Large Chinese hospitals want cash, however they are VERY very cheap. Doctors, even in small
cities, probably will know some English, but may be unwilling to admit it for fear of making a
language gaffe.

My daughter had minor outpatient surgery - total cost CNY40 - equivilant to US$5

Most meds are available in large pharmacies without prescription, however you may have trouble
finding them unless you have a translator who knows the names of medicines, THIS is the big problem.
It can be in a large display on he shelf next to you, but you don't know Chinese for "Ibuprofen"
*(which is called "Fenbid" in china). If you know what it does, and the Brit name, AND the Aussie
name, you will have some luck.
