1. I’m looking to purchase my first road bike. I’ve been to three bike stores in town and every store had only one bike that fit my criteria. My criteria was 105’s or better throughout, carbon fork, and preferably a triple crank set. Just wondering if any of these bikes stood out as better or worse than any of the others.

The first store had a Felt F80 with:

    - 105 components

    - (except for) RPM cranks

    For $900

The second store had a Specialized Allez Elite with:

    - 105’s throughout

    For $1050

The third store had a Trek 1500 with:

    - Ultegra rear derailer and cranks

    - Shimano 105 shifters and front derailer

    For $1000

Do any of these bike stand out as better or worse than the others. I understand that it’s a lot of preference but I just wanted to hear thoughts from some more experienced riders, or someone familiar with any of these bikes

Also, any other recomendation for bike to look at would be appreciated

  2. My order of preference would be:
    Felt,
    Trek
    Specialised.

Don't worry about RPM cranks, I have them on my 04 SR81 and no problems. Felt make the better riding bike of the three. Just make sure it is YOUR size. 😉

  3. You're asking if any stand out, not what our personal preference would be- don't follow anyone's personal preference unless they tell you why.

That said, I don't think there is any hard and fast objective reason to pick one over another. They are all excellent names in bikes. They have different geometries and might differ in how they feel to you. Pick based on fit, componentry/value and which shop you like best.

  4. I have heard a lot of good stuff about theTrek 1500, but I don't really know about the other two.

I don't think Trek skimp on conponents - I think it is 105 all the way including brakes (I might be wrong, just going by memory)- a lot of companies will use cheaper brakes etc.

Have you seen the BMC Streetfire nice bike with some quality components - pretty cheap as well.
