  1. Recently (Within the last 2 months) I heard a story on the news about a
30+ year study involving 80,000 patients. The study compared people who
were on a low-fat, high-fiber diet vs not and it stated that the low-
fat, high-fiber had no difference on heart disease or on colon cancer
risk at all. I can not find any information on that study anywhere.

If you know anything about this, please post a link to the info.
    Thanks

You may be thinking of one of the studies that came out of the WHI
(Womens Health Initiative) a few months ago.

And IIRC, a big flaw was that the people were not following a strict diet.
It was a case of whether they "thought" they were eating high fiber. For
example, having a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast every day is not evidence of
eating a "high fiber" diet and yet some of them assumed it was.

But that wasn't a confounding factor in this large study; when compared,
those who ate lower fat fared no better, and sometimes worse, than those
    who ate higher fat.

When Harvard researchers looked at the eating habits of more than 80,000 women, they found that total fat intake had no impact on their risk for coronary artery disease. Only saturated fat increased the danger, according to findings published in the November 20, 1997 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. Cutting down on saturated fat means going easy on butter and cheese and switching from full-fat milk to 1% or, better yet, skim milk. It also means less beef and pork and more fish, which contains mostly unsaturated fat.
