We had to postpone our ride due to Ivan being a bad Boy. The next
weekend was a go and the weather was perfect. two of the original 4
riders could not make it so that just left Bob and Bill[me] to do the
Leaf.We arrived at jeff Davis Lake[2 or 3 miles south of Prentiss
Miss] on Friday Sept 24 and departed for home Sept 26. After setting
up our tents we rode 2.5 miles down Ed parkman road to where the trace
intersects. Then we headed north 2.8 miles to Prentiss to look for a
place to eat. After getting a Subway we headed back to camp. The next
day[Sat Sept 25] we headed back up to Prentiss for breakfast and then
to the trail head for our start. we headed south and passed through
Carson,Bassfield, Sumrall and smaller places in between. The path is a
absolute joy to ride.No crushed limestone here just nice pavement the
whole way. We Arrived in Hattiesburg around 1pm and hung around the
area for awhile before getting lunch around 3pm then heading back.
while hanging around the Hattiesburg start point we met two fellow
benters. One was riding a RANS V2 Formula and the other guy was riding
a Cat trike speed. Both Bikes were SWEET.I got to ride the formula and
can say that it's a fast light bike. My riding partner Bob was on his
new Greenspeed GT3 which is a Sweet trike too. After lunch we knew
that it would be dark way before we got back to camp but we were not
worried because I had a SON powered light and Bobs Greenspeed had a
Dymotec S6 bottle generator to lite up the Trace. It was so pleasent
riding two abreast through the night with the generators lighting up
the trail. Excellent ride. Check out my group photo taken in the
Hattiesburg parking lot.

Excellent ride.

Sounds like a great time, Bill. About how many miles was it? And
(for my info, since I'm considering putting my TE in my Caravan and
heading out for various winter areas) what was the temperature?

Is this a safe area for a solo female to ride around in?

Hi Carol. The Long Leaf Trace is pretty safe. we did our ride on a
sat. The park ranger told us that the trace is patrolled. We did see
two golf carts patrolling the trace that saturday. Its supposed to be
42 miles one way.We did a double[down and back] with no problems. The
Long leaf is a nice paved bike path . temps on our ride were maybe in
the 80s during the day and dipped down into the 60s at night. Check
